The Pass Family – Whittle le Woods
Ellen Pass
Ellen married John Barton, landlord of the ‘Duke of York’ Whittle le Woods. The couple retired to a house on Preston Road, Chorley.

Ralph Pass
Ralph worked in textile bleaching and lived with his sister Ellen later in life.

Henry Pass
Mary and Henry’s son Henry Jnr, a brewery labourer died aged twenty-two in July of 1901. Henry was found deceased in the canal having set off for home from the brewery in a drunken condition. His drowning was concluded to be accidental.

Elizabeth Pass
Elizabeth worked as a weaver in a local cotton mill. She later married Ernest Hargreaves at St John the Evangelist, Whittle le Woods in 1913 and took over as landlady of the Old Millstone after her mother’s death. In later life Elizabeth retired to a house on Preston Road in Chorley, next door to younger brother John.

Richard Pass
Richard worked as a carter at the local Whittle Springs Brewery, and later transported heavy goods as a lorry wagon driver. He married Elizabeth Stephenson in 1911 at St John the Evangelist, Whittle le Woods and retired to a cottage on Dark Lane.

James Pass
James worked as a calico printer at the calico printer’s association, Whittle le Woods. James married Teresa Kerfoot in 1922 and moved to Preston Road later in life.

Annie Pass
Annie resided with her sister Elizabeth at the Old Millstone when she took over. Annie was a cotton worker at Swansey Mill.

Mary Dinah Pass
Mary Dinah Pass resided with her sister Elizabeth in the Old Millstone. She worked as a cotton weaver at Swansey Mill and married Ernest Rigby in 1921. They moved to a house on Kenyon lane, Heapey.
